PIX-Analog Tension Tester
Proper belt tension is essential for optimum power transmission and belt life. The PIX-Analog Tension Tester is a simple mechanical instrument that measures the deflection force (in Newtons) needed to depress the belt by a set distance at mid-span, letting you check and set correct V-belt drive tension with adequate reliability.
Product Description
The PIX-Analog Tension Tester works on a simple deflection-force principle. The span length of the belt is measured, and 1% (spans >1000 mm) or 1.5% (spans ≤1000 mm) of that span is set as the deflection distance on the tester's lower ring. The tester is then pressed perpendicular to the belt at mid-span until the lower ring just touches a reference string, and the Newton scale reading at that point is compared against the recommended deflection-force range for the belt's cross-section and speed.
A reading below the recommended minimum indicates an under-tensioned drive, while a reading above the maximum indicates an over-tensioned drive; for new belts the deflection force should be kept towards the maximum of the range, and it is recommended to re-check tension after approximately 24 hours of running.
